The expressions mason wasp or potter wasp refer to various species of solitary wasps that shape mud nests to house their larvae. These species build nests from various materials, usually mud, sometimes mixed with small minerals or even chewed plant debris. Some form pots, others long “organ pipe” type tubes. They feed their larvae with caterpillars of Lepidoptera or Orthoptera.
